The central defensive department at Real Madrid has been under the microscope since last season with injuries and lack of depth in the position becoming a concern.

Real Madrid went through the last season with Eder Militao and David Alaba missing a big chunk through ACL injuries.

Coming into 2024/25, Los Blancos parted ways with Nacho Fernandez without signing a replacement while losing young Joan Martinez to an ACL injury.

While Alaba was still recovering from the knee injury from last term, Militao suffered yet another one, leaving Carlo Ancelotti short-handed in the CB department again.

It had led to speculations that Real Madrid could bring in a new centre-back either this winter or in the summer window of 2025.

No plans to sign a new defender

However, according to MARCA, Real Madrid have no plans to sign a new central defender either this winter window or in the summer before the start of the next season.

The Merengues have complete confidence in the options that they currently have and expect Militao, whose recovery is progressing well, to return strongly and at a high level whenever he comes back.

David Alaba has put in solid shifts since returning and Antonio Rudiger has established himself as the defensive linchpin.

Furthermore, Real Madrid have youngsters like Raul Asencio, Jacobo Ramon, and Diego Aguado coming through, with Asencio already becoming a regular first-team player.

As such, there is no plan to sign a new central defender this year, with the focus being on signing a new right-back like Trent Alexander-Arnold.
