Dani Carvajal’s injury opened the doors for a new audition at Real Madrid. After all, the future of the right-back position has been a topic of discussion for a long time now.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that the Merengues were satisfied with Carvajal’s performances this season.

His injury left the manager with two options, Nacho Fernandez and Lucas Vazquez, and who the club would renew as the second-choice right back would depend on their performances this month.

A strong candidate

According to reports from AS, Vazquez is taking strong steps towards being the chosen one for Real Madrid. Step by step, he is earning a renewal at the club purely through merit.

The Spanish veteran is seen as a vital presence in the dressing room. His jovial personality, ever-smiling face, and ferocity on the field build a unique profile.

Most importantly, his recent performances have more than impressed the management.

Despite being 32 years old, he has shown no signs of slowing down. He got an assist in Real Madrid’s recent clash against Villarreal before topping it with a sumptuous match-winning goal against Alaves in the 92nd minute.

Contractual situation

Vazquez is currently in the final year of his contract which runs out in June 2024. So far, there have been no negotiations opened regarding a new deal for the full-back. However, his renewal now appears to be only a matter of time.

Los Blancos have players like Alphonso Davies, Kylian Mbappe, and Erling Haaland on their agenda for the summer, and the right-back position is no longer seen as one in acute trouble.

Till a new name is signed in the coming years, Carvajal and Vazquez appear set to run the show.
