Eden Hazard’s disastrous four-year spell at Real Madrid still haunts many at the club, and despite the fact that he retired from professional football at the end of last season, he is still having an effect on Los Blancos.

That’s because Real Madrid have been forced to pay €6m to Chelsea as part of the agreement between the clubs that took place in 2019. The Telegraph (via Diario AS) has reported that although Hazard cancelled his contract and has since left, the conditions of his transfer are still valid.

Real Madrid have had to make the payment because of reaching the Champions League final, which they did so last week after defeating Bayern Munich in remarkable fashion. It’s not ideal having not pay other clubs with no return, but it’s not too bad when it’s because of their own success.

Still, that’s €6m that Real Madrid may not have at their disposal ahead of the summer transfer window, which is expected to be a busy one for Florentino Perez, Carlo Ancelotti and co.
