According to Mundo Deportivo, Real Madrid defender Fran Garcia has decided to reject a move to AC Milan, choosing instead to fight for his place at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The left-back, who returned to Madrid from Rayo Vallecano, did not have the easiest first season back with Los Blancos. However, his strong showing in the Club World Cup has changed the outlook on his role at the club.
With Ferland Mendy sidelined due to injury and new signing Alvaro Carreras unavailable during the tournament, Garcia stepped up and made the most of his opportunity.
He even found the net in the clash against Borussia Dortmund, showing his value both in defence and going forward.
As such, his performances did not go unnoticed, especially by the new manager Xabi Alonso, who has now placed more trust in the 25-year-old.

Earlier, it was reported that Serie A club AC Milan had identified Garcia as a target following Theo Hernandez’s exit. However, the Spanish defender made it clear he’s not interested in leaving.
Despite increased competition – Mendy’s return and Carreras’ arrival from Benfica – Garcia is not backing down. He believes he can earn regular minutes under Alonso and doesn’t see himself as a backup.
Interestingly, Xabi Alonso has admired Garcia for some time. During his stint at Bayer Leverkusen, the Spanish coach had already shown interest in bringing him to the Bundesliga.
Now reunited at Madrid, Alonso values his work ethic and versatility, which could be key throughout a long and demanding season.
With the player rejecting Milan’s interest, Real Madrid will have one more solid option on the left flank.
Garcia’s confidence, combined with Alonso’s backing, could help him become a consistent presence in the team’s backline in the months to come.
