The stakes couldn't be higher.
The scoring started and ended within the opening 30 seconds, but it it has been a truly gripping encounter.
It always is when the cross-city rivals clash in Europe.
There's very little in the way of chances, and it feels like a shootout is inevitable.

Half time in extra-time, and Atleti are holding back Real right now.
Los Blancos look to have more energy, but you can never underestimate Simeone's side character in a battle.
Federico Valverde charges into the box after some lovely build up play, but his cross goes across the box.
Jude Bellingham shows his frustration by kicking the post.
Atleti and Real are going blow for blow here.
Tired legs and tired minds, but who will land the knockout blow?

And we head to extra time...
Atleti's supersub Ángel Correa does brilliantly to fashion himself a chance but puts it over Courtois' bar.
We're into added time. Four minutes until extra time.
Brahim Díaz is on for Rodrygo.
The matchwinner last week, can he do it again tonight?
Asensio almost got another there. How his boyhood club Real could do with one of their players stepping up like he has!
Atleti are still quite comfortable.
GOAL! Aston Villa 1-0 Club Brugge
Villa are on their way to the quarter finals, and it's that man again.
And we're back underway in the three games.
A huge 45 mins ahead in Madrid.
Half time in the other two games, and while 10-man Brugge have been impressive, I think everyone's attention is on what is happening in the Spanish capital!
HALF TIME: Atlético de Madrid 1-0 Real Madrid
Gallagher's goal is the difference between the sides at the break after the almost perfect half of Simeone ball in the Champions League.
And that's now back-to-back games in which Declan Rice has scored.
With his striking ability, he really should be scoring more. Maybe this is the start?
GOAL! Arsenal 2-1 PSV
A decent night for Raheem Sterling, who now has two assists to his name.
A much-needed boost for the 30-year-old.
Atlético are doing Atlético things, as you might expect.
Real are being swarmed every time they get the ball. Mbappé, Vini Jr., Bellingham and co. have barely had a sniff.
Julián Álvarez comes close, shimmying past Raúl Asencio before testing Thibaut Courtois.
A scorer of a screamer last week, and a big game player, the Argentine looks in the mood tonight.
GOAL! Arsenal 1-1 PSV
It's the former Spurs man on his return to North London.
Six more to go!
Real have had most of the ball, but little to no impact on the Atleti goal.

GOOOOOAL! Atlético 1-0 Real Madrid
Conor Gallagher has given Atlético the lead after just 27 seconds, sending the home fans wild.
Real lost the ball inside their own half, Rodrigo de Paul put into the box, and the former Chelsea man was the quickest to pounce to poke home from three yards out.
Selection justified, and then some.
KICK OFF!
And we're under way in the last three round of 16 clashes.
But first, a few more flowers for Dortmund, who were seriously impressive after a horror start in Lille.
That's five teams confirmed through to the last eight, with Arsenal as good as there too.
Can Villa close out against Brugge? And what might happen in the Madrid derby?
We'll begin to find out in five minutes!

CLOSE FOR LILLE!
David might have done better, sidefooting straight at Kobel after connecting with a cross.
Can he be their saviour?
Lille have little over 10 minutes to keep their Champions League dream alive.
Dortmund are looking the more likely to score though, and have just brought Jamie Gittens.
GOAL! LILLE 1-2 DORTMUND
Beier makes up for his miss right away with a brilliant curled finish after finding space for himself in the box.

They will need to step it up, or Dortmund will make them pay.
GOAL! LILLE 1-1 DORTMUND
Chevalier is finally beaten nine minutes into the second half, as Emre Can grabs a crucial equaliser for Dortmund from the spot.
Ex-Dortmund man Thomas Meunier took down Guirassy in the box, and the captain made no mistake.
We're back under way in Lille, with 45 minutes between the hosts and a first-ever quarter final.
Can Dortmund find the net? Surely they will if they keep banging on the door.
Linked with PSG already, it feels like the 23-year-old could have his pick of the biggest clubs this summer...
Will Rodrygo do it yet again for Los Blancos when the lights are brightest?
Somehow, it seems he is still underrated.
The biggest game of the night is the Madrid Derby, and Real's team is out.
Luka Modrić and Jude Bellingham come into the side from last week's 2-1 first leg win, while Kylian Mbappé starts despite concerns about his fitness.
HALF TIME: Lille 1-0 Dortmund
Somehow Lille are ahead at the break despite Dortmund having numerous great chances after Jonathan David's fifth minute opener.
Lucas Chevalier has done his burgeoning reputation with a stunning goalkeeping display so far.
Can Lille keep them out all night?
Just to crystallise how much Dortmund have stepped up, they have had seven shots, and four on target, since Lille opened the scoring.
The hosts haven't had an effort on goal since David's strike.
HOW HAVE DORTMUND NOT SCORED?
Chevalier does brilliantly again to deny Serhou Guirassy's header from three yards out after Lille failed to deal with a corner.
After a goalmouth scramble, the ball came to Julian Brandt, who saw his low shot cleared off the line by a collection of defenders.
We have a game on our hands here.

KICK OFF!
And we're under way in the first of four second legs.
We're minutes away from kick off in a huge game for both club's - it's the biggest in Lille's European history, while for Dortmund and Niko Kovač, it's progress or bust for the season.
An even worse one for the visitors?
A bad omen for the hosts?
Our first game of the night sees Lille host Borussia Dortmund at The Stade Pierre-Mauroy with the score at 1-1. The Ligue 1 side are looking to make their first-ever quarter final, while last season's finalists are looking to keep their season alive amid a wretched domestic campaign.
