There has been a huge development recently in the Ibrahima Konate transfer saga, as tension between the player and Liverpool continues to rise.
Fabrizio Romano, while speaking to DAZN, has recently revealed that Liverpool are not close to extend the contract of Konate, whose deal at Anfield expires in 2026.
If more complications emerge between the two parties over the next few weeks, the window could open for Real Madrid to make a move.
Romano even adds that Konate and Liverpool were close to reaching an agreement during the first half of last season. But everything changed suddenly.
This is where things get interesting. Romano was accompanied by Matteo Moretto in the same DAZN conversation.

While Moretto agrees that Konate’s renewal talks have come to a halt, he adds that there is a possibility Real Madrid could make a move this summer
This is quite significant considering the fact that Los Blancos do indeed require a fresh face in defence, given the way the team struggled to cope with PSG’s attacking firepower.
With the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Eder Militao and David Alaba having a poor injury record, the addition of someone like Konate could help.
Moretto, though, does clarify that a 2026 move is likely from Real Madrid, who would want to sign the Frenchman on a Bosman move.
The journalist also adds that the renewal talks between Liverpool and Konate are ‘blocked’, which suggests that the defender is now more than likely to join Los Blancos.
Whether or not Konate will leave the Reds for Real Madrid this summer or next remains to be seen. A lot may depend on how much compensation Liverpool demand for the defender this summer.
