Real Madrid’s midfield has been left with a gaping void after the departure of Toni Kroos and the club simply lack the profile to fill in the gap.
Los Blancos have struggled in midfield this season without a creative passer and playmaker, and the closest profile to the German stars is unsurprisingly that of Luka Modric.
The Croatian star was expected to see less prominence with every passing year, especially after the youngsters showed they were ready the last season. Yet, it appears that the team’s results still largely revolve around his presence.
Speaking to the media recently, Dinamo Zagreb manager Nenad Bjelica was asked his thoughts on Luka Modric possibly returning to the club for the final act in his career, and his response was not surprising.
“Luka Modric back to Dinamo? Who wouldn’t like to have Modric in their team? I hope he will finish his career at Dinamo Zagreb,” he said, as revealed by Radio MARCA.

The Croatian star, after all, began his career at Dinamo Zagreb and a possible fairytale return has been spoken of widely in recent years.
Now 38 years of age, the veteran midfielder has seen many theoretical ‘final seasons’ at the club and his future is always in question. Of all the options speculated, the possibility of returning to his boyhood club stands out.
Back in the day, Modric made 95 appearances for the Croatian side before his eventual move to Tottenham in 2008.
With his contract once again running out next June, it is highly speculated whether or not the management will opt to renew his contract which looks more unlikely with every passing year.
Given the current situation in midfield, however, nothing can be ruled out. If he does indeed leave Real Madrid, the MLS and Saudi Pro League are other viable options apart from Dinamo Zagreb.
