As we close in on the business end of the 2024/25 season, rumours of Real Madrid potentially re-signing former academy gem Nico Paz in the summer are starting to gain weight.

Indeed, it has been suggested that the 20-year-old attacking midfielder, who left the club for Como last summer, is inching closer to a return later this year, although a final decision will be made only at the end of the season.

Nico, for his part, is understood to harbour dreams of making a return to the Santiago Bernabeu as well.

Real Madrid’s buyback clauses for Nico Paz

Amidst the growing speculation, Fabrizio Romano has come forward with details regarding Real Madrid’s buyback options for Nico Paz.

While selling the young Argentine to the Serie A newbies, Los Blancos inserted a buyback clause as well as a 50% future sell-on clause so as to maintain some degree of control over his future should he explode in Italy.

Now that Nico has done exactly that, Real Madrid can bring him back to the club later this year for a minimal fee of just €8 million.

If the Merengues decide to wait to re-sign the La Fabrica graduate until 2026, the buyback fee will rise to €9 million.

Another year’s delay would see the price increase by another €1 million, meaning Real Madrid would need to pay €10 million to sign Nico back from Como in the summer of 2027.

The Italian club tried to negotiate with Real Madrid recently to remove the buyback and future sell-on clauses, only to be met with a firm rejection by the La Liga champions.

It will now be interesting to see if the Spanish capital giants do actually pull the trigger on the buyback option for Nico this summer or decide to wait for longer.
