Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has on Friday spoken out regarding the criticism aimed in his direction, over the tactician’s ongoing use of youngster Arda Güler.
The subject of Güler’s minutes, or rather lack thereof, came back to the fore in a major way in midweek.
As much came en route to Real Madrid’s first defeat of the campaign, at the hands of LOSC Lille in the Champions League.
The 19-year-old was for his part forced to watch on from the bench at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, before being introduced late on in a bid to add some guile and creativity to Los Blancos’ attack.
And Güler, to his credit, managed precisely that, carving out a number of presentable goalscoring opportunities during his time on the pitch.
Post-match, a disappointed Real fanbase, in turn, launched a collective online campaign, for their side’s midfield gem to see an uptick in game-time moving forward.
Speaking to the media on Friday, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of as much was put to the aforementioned Carlo Ancelotti.
Amid long-standing criticism over his utilisation of Güler’s talents, however, the Italian tactician stood firm:
“Arda Güler? He is having a bigger role than last season. The competition is high in the team and it’s not easy to find a place in the XI.”
