In January, Real Betis completed the loan signing of Antony from Manchester United, and the winger has made a promising start to life in La Liga. He was named MVP on his debut Athletic Club, before scoring first goal in the 3-2 defeat to Celta Vigo on Saturday.

Antony had a poor start to the season with Man United, but he looks to have breathed new life into things since joining Betis. So far, it is a move that has benefitted all parties, although the chances of an extended deal being agreed are far from certain, given that there was no loan extension clause or buy option added to the operation.

Nevertheless, Real Betis CEO Ramon Alarcon has told the media that there is a chance for Antony to remain at the club next season, as per Radio Sevilla (via MD).

“I think so. The other day the CEO of United called me, we sent them all the video plays and details of the player of the whole week so that they can see that we are taking care of their asset. There is very good chemistry with Manchester United and with the player. It is a possibility that he will continue next season, why not?”

During the winter transfer window, Antony was joined by Colombian striker Juan “Cucho” Hernandez, who signed on deadline day from MLS side Columbus Crew in a big-money move. Alarcon expressed his delight at addressing two positions that had been causing problems for Betis during the first half of the season.

“We were told that the priority was a right winger and then the issue of the striker, said publicly. We meet the needs, it can always be done better, but we end the winter market with enthusiasm, reasonably satisfied. We have €48k left on a squad limit of €108m. Betis play to spend absolutely everything on the pitch.”
