A look at two of many situations that will be on Selles' mind, with the new season just weeks away.

Reading have fallen behind many other clubs in their preparations for the 2024/25 campaign.

The Royals have managed to retain much of their first-team squad from last season, but because of their ownership situation, they haven't been able to make any signings during the early stages of the summer transfer window.

However, if they can get their ownership situation sorted in the coming weeks, that could allow them to make some much-needed additions during the latter stages of the window.

These signings will be needed, with the club needing to address a number of areas if they are to give themselves the best chance of being successful during the upcoming season.

With the new campaign just weeks away, it's a shame for Ruben Selles that he hasn't been able to make some additions yet. But right now, he needs to focus on his current first-teamers.

Below, we take a look at two player situations that will be on Selles' mind at this stage.

Andresson may be one of very few players who could be surplus to requirements at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

Unfortunately for him, the goalkeeping department is one area where the Royals have too much depth, with Joel Pereira having an extension option in his contract triggered, David Button and Dean Bouzanis staying at the club at this point and Coniah Boyce-Clarke also available as an option.

Both Pereira and Button played for the first team last season and although the latter wasn't hugely impressive, he may be seen as a good backup.

That could mean that Bouzanis leaves, but even if the Australian departs, another keeper could potentially leave.

Andresson, who has been out on multiple EFL loan spells in the past and played for Carlisle United last season, could be in the frame to depart.

At 22 and with just one year left on his contract in Berkshire, he may feel this summer is the time for him to move on permanently to win more game time.

However, if Button and Bouzanis both depart in the coming weeks, things could potentially change for the Icelandic shot-stopper, who may be used as a second or third-choice stopper.

Harlee Dean's future at Reading FC

Having joined last summer following the end of his time at Birmingham City, Dean looked to be an excellent addition for the Royals.

However, his time at the SCL Stadium hasn't gone as planned, with the defender falling behind Tyler Bindon and Amadou Mbengue in the pecking order and failing to win much game time last season.

Nelson Abbey, Tom Holmes and Tom McIntyre have left since the start of 2024, as well as former loanee Zane Monlouis, which could give the central defender the opportunity to assert himself as a valuable first-team option again.

However, the 32-year-old faces an uncertain future and he spoke out recently about his future.

Asked on the Keep Right On podcast whether he's looking forward to a 40-game season with the Royals next season, he said: "Well, I mean it may not be Reading, it may be somewhere else."
