Xavi Simons Makes Chelsea His Priority

RB Leipzig’s rising star Xavi Simons has made it clear to his club that “he only wants a transfer to Chelsea, despite interest from Bayern Munich and Manchester City, sources have told ESPN.” It is a bold stance from a 22-year-old who knows his value and his preferred destination.

Rising Value in Europe

Leipzig are demanding around €80 million after only signing Simons permanently from Paris Saint-Germain in January for €50m. The Dutch midfielder contributed 10 goals and seven assists in 25 Bundesliga appearances last season, underlining why Chelsea, Bayern and City have all been circling. His contract runs until 2027, but Leipzig are keen to make a significant profit if a sale materialises.

Chelsea’s Summer Strategy

ESPN report that “Chelsea were stepping up their interest in the Netherlands international and they are now willing to offer a fee of around €60m to sign him.” Bayern view him as the perfect replacement for Kingsley Coman, who has departed for Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr, while Manchester City may turn to him if Savinho moves to Tottenham. Chelsea’s hierarchy, however, appear firmly in the driving seat.

More Targets on Stamford Bridge Radar

If secured, Simons would become Chelsea’s ninth summer signing, with over €250m already invested in João Pedro, Jamie Gittens and Jorrel Hato. Sources also told ESPN that Chelsea are monitoring Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho, suggesting their recruitment drive shows little sign of slowing.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

Chelsea fans will be excited yet slightly anxious reading this latest update. On one hand, a player of Simons’ calibre choosing Stamford Bridge over Bayern Munich and Manchester City feels like a statement. “Simons has told the club that he only wants a transfer to Chelsea” is a line supporters will replay in their heads, as it signals loyalty and ambition towards their project.

Yet, scepticism lingers. The Blues have already spent over €250m this window and questions about Financial Fair Play will inevitably surface. Can Chelsea truly sustain such aggressive recruitment, or will balancing the books lead to compromises elsewhere? Some fans may even question the need for another attacking midfielder when the squad already has abundance in those roles.

From a wider Premier League perspective, rivals will watch nervously. If Chelsea secure Simons and potentially Garnacho, they will have assembled one of the youngest and most talented attacking units in Europe. The challenge is blending it into a coherent, winning team. Chelsea supporters are expectant, dreaming of a new era at Stamford Bridge, but until silverware arrives, the proof will remain on the pitch.
