Manchester United’s ability to sell Rasmus Hojlund this summer appears to be hinged on the future of Inter Milan striker Mehdi Taremi.
Since arriving at Old Trafford in the summer of 2023, Hojlund has endured a troublesome tenure at the club, muddied with poor performances and a lack of clinical finishing.
As a result, it would make sense for the club to part ways with the Dane, especially as they target top performers such as Victor Osimhen, Viktor Gyokeres, and Hugo Ekitike.
In fact, The Peoples Person previously noted that Man United were reportedly open to offering Hojlund or fellow forward Joshua Zirkzee to Eintracht Frankfurt in exchange for Ekitike.
Despite his struggles, Hojlund still appears to be attracting the interest of several clubs, particularly in Italy.
Napoli have reportedly expressed their interest in the Dane, with manager Antonio Conte allegedly interested in adding him to the squad.
Still, it appears as if they may be in for a tough battle to sign Hojlund, with Inter Milan reportedly going “full speed ahead” in their efforts to sign the young striker.
But before they can contend for Hojlund, Inter may need to part ways with an existing star in order to free up funds.
“Something is moving. Obviously, what is happening in Iran has made everything even more complicated, but the first movements are starting around Taremi. As is known, Inter’s idea is to find him a new placement, after a year with more shadows than lights,” Corriere dello Sport reported, signalling an intention to part ways with Taremi.
The Italian news outlet then suggested that Inter would look to replace Taremi with Hojlund. “In any case, as has already emerged, only Taremi’s exit can open the doors to the entry of another striker,” the newspaper claimed.
“Furthermore, the negotiations for Hojlund would still have to be developed. Inter have tested the waters with the Dane’s entourage, obtaining the availability for a transfer to the Nerazzurri. After all, the ex-Atalanta player wants to relaunch himself and Serie A is the championship where he stood out, without then managing to establish himself in the Premier League.”
“The real obstacle, however, is Manchester United. Who, despite having opened up to Hojlund’s departure, are pushing for a transfer, not taking into consideration the loan with right/obligation to redeem proposed by Inter. In short, the game is all to play for. But it still depends on Taremi.”
With Fulham and Nottingham Forest reportedly interested in Taremi, United’s attempt to offload Hojlund could prove to be a waiting game.
