Former Chelsea star Florent Malouda has urged the Blues not to resign Kevin De Bruyne on a free transfer this summer.

The Blues are once again set for another busy summer with the club looking to sign a striker, centre back and right footed attacker to strengthen Enzo Maresca’s squad.

Chelsea could look to fund their business by selling seven or eight stars, with a number of players now surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.

Malouda warns Chelsea against resigning De Bruyne

Fans will be hoping the Blues sign experienced players with leadership to improve the first team, as a lack of that in the squad has cost the team this season.

The strongest links have been with talented inexperienced players such as Dean Huijsen and Liam Delap, although it was reported the Blues were keen on Virgil van Dijk if he became available on a free.

Another big star available on a free this summer is De Bruyne, who will leave Manchester City at the end of the season.

The Belgian international had an ill fated spell at Stamford Bridge early in his career and made just nine appearances for the Blues, but Malouda has warned Chelsea against resigning the attacking midfielder.

“Kevin De Bruyne is on a free, but it’s rarely a good idea to re-sign a former player,” he said as cited on X.com.

“Most of the time, it doesn’t work, and for Kevin, he’s done everything he can already in the Premier League. So in terms of motivation, at this stage of his career. I think it would be better for him to leave the Premier League on a high.

“So that’s my perspective as a Chelsea fan, but also as a former player. I think at this stage he needs to enjoy himself on the pitch and go for a new challenge outside of the Premier League.”

Maresca calls for experience

Everyone knows the Blues need experience and Maresca himself has also admitted Chelsea could do with some experience.

There’s no denying the talent in the squad, but there’s a lack of guidance and no one for the younger players to look up to and learn from.

The best teams always have the right blend of youth and experience, and the Blues have to address that balance this summer.
