Claudio Ranieri has vowed to take a flexible approach to his tactical set-up at Roma, tailoring his strategies to suit different opponents.

Speaking in his first press conference since being appointed as manager until the end of the season, the 73-year-old emphasised his commitment to adapting the team’s formation.

Ranieri, who famously led Leicester City to their 2016 Premier League triumph, outlined his motivations for returning to coaching after a hiatus.

He revealed that he had turned down several offers in recent months, making it clear he would only come back for Roma or Cagliari.

“I started here as a player, and I’ll finish here as a coach,” Ranieri said. “Fate wanted this, and I’m ready for the challenge.

“I will change things along the way – I’ll decide based on what the game demands. It’s about unsettling the opposition and staying unpredictable.”Ranieri also rallied support from the Stadio Olimpico faithful, urging unity as the team navigates a challenging period.

“I’m a fan first and foremost,” he added. “Playing in front of a whistling crowd hurts us. I want our supporters to stick with us. Luck will change if we work hard together.”Motivation remains central to Ranieri’s managerial style, as he referenced the incentive-based tactics he successfully used at Leicester.

“I reward players for achieving goals,” Ranieri said. “It’s about fostering positivity and giving everything on the pitch.

Addressing the role of club legend Francesco Totti, Ranieri hinted at a potential collaboration while stressing the immediate focus on Roma’s progress.

“If Totti can help, we’ll see, but there’s no decision yet,” he clarified.

Ranieri acknowledged the difficult transition the club has faced, with four coaches taking charge this calendar year. However, he remains optimistic about steering Roma back to the top.

“We’ll make mistakes, but we’ll try to move in the right direction,” Ranieri said.
