Claudio Ranieri has been linked to Roma, either as a caretaker manager or as an executive despite retiring last summer. While he skirted the question in an interview with Corriere della Sera, he stated that he’s ready to get back on the horse.

“I’m honest, Cagliari is everything to me. It’s my place in the world. When I first arrived, I was a young coach with no certainties. We had three great years. I was afraid of disappointing people. I told myself not to be selfish. They needed me, and I accepted. That club is more important than Leicester City to me.”

Ranieri has an itch to return to coaching.

“I miss it. I must confess that I want to resume challenging myself, even though I’ve already turned down some proposals. Let’s see if a national team comes calling. Not Italy, though, as I trust Luciano Spalletti fully.”

Ranieri addressed his previous stay with the Giallorossi.

“I’m practical and fatalist. We could have won the Scudetto that season, but I took over mid-season, and we collected more points than Inter. We were in the lead, and then lost at home against Sampdoria in a match that should have ended three-nil. That’s football. What I’m left with is the joy of being a Romanista.”

Ranieri recalled a stunning decision in 2010.

“I replaced Daniele De Rossi and Francesco Totti at halftime in the Derby because they were too involved and gave more responsibilities to the rest of the team. I couldn’t imagine the former would become a come. It’s a delicate job. The first quality you need is patience. I’m sorry for his dismissal, as he had started a project.”
