Rangers working on deals for six player departures to free up £150,000pw wages | OneFootball

It’s now looking very likely Rangers are going to be able to ship out 6 players in the coming 10 days, with projections seeing the exits of a strong handful of personnel.

Sheffield Wednesday have opened discussions with Scott Wright with a view to taking him to Danny Ruhl’s Championship outfit, while Connor Goldson was closing in on his switch to cash-rich Aris Limassol who can happily fund his wages.

Meanwhile Todd Cantwell’s exit from the club was looming large after being heavily linked with a switch to Cardiff, not to mention being apparently absent from the squad’s flight to Birmingham, and we also didn’t notice James Tavernier with that group either, as a massive tussle in Turkey surfaces over his signature.

Then we have Ianis Hagi whose agent, mate, and old man not to mention lad himself have all expressed that he’s done at Rangers and that he’s working on a move to Fiorentina.

Lastly there’s Sam Lammers who seems to have finally found his calling, with claims this morning that Dutch giants Twente are in for his signature and have worked an agreement over his absurd wages.

This would be a big exodus, and a freeing up of a staggering, mind-boggling £150,000pw in wages between the 6 of them, half of which alone is between captain Tavernier and vice Goldson.

That money could be put to infinitely better use.

Obviously none of these have materialised yet – it’s all still ‘in the works’, but we know they’re happening. The question is when they can be potentially completed and/or how many will actually complete.

The quicker Rangers get this lot shipped out the quicker they get the fees and can reuse and reinvest, but more tellingly can free up those wages to allocate to new recruits.

We hope for major progress by the start of the season in that sense, but unfortunately signing new players to replace them may not be as quick and we almost certainly will start the competitive action with a subpar squad way short on just about every area of the pitch.

The one solace is the window runs till August 30 so there are 5 weeks to finally make some serious additions.

Problem there is it just doesn’t look like the club has the time before the Champions League to even remotely be ready for that.

This is the damage of overpaying way too many charlatan players.
