The Glasgow giants travelled to Fir Park looking for the three points that would take them back to within six of Celtic, who play Hibernian later on Saturday.

But it was the home side who took the lead after only three minutes as Kevin van Veen opened the scoring.

But captain James Tavernier levelled things up midway through the half as he fired in a brilliant free kick that found the bottom corner.

Into the second half and almost immediately the Gers were ahead as Fashion Sakala finished well.

But that lead didn’t last long as Bevis Mugabi equalised for the hosts on the hour mark.

This topsy-turvy game took another turn just a few moments later however, as Todd Cantwell showed his class with a neat finish.

Michael Beale’s side took control of the match soon after though, as Malik Tillman bagged their fourth to all but secure the victory.

And things got even harder for Motherwell late on as Callum Slattery was given his marching orders.
