Rangers set to miss out on Hannibal Mejbri with Ligue 1 or La Liga his likely destination

Manchester United have signed three defenders and one forward and their next port of call is strengthening in the middle of the park.

Manuel Ugarte is Erik ten Hag’s preferred choice but Paris Saint-Germain have so far refused to lower their demands which has meant a deal has not materialised despite the player’s wish to leave.

United cannot afford such an excessive asking price without selling players first. Casemiro was chosen by INEOS to depart in order to finance the deal for the Uruguayan but no Saudi Pro League club came forward with a concrete bid.

Now with the Brazilian’s form improving, it is unlikely he will be let go. Scott McTominay is another midfielder whose future remains up in the air with multiple teams interested in his services.

Hannibal’s future

Fulham have re-entered the race but the United academy graduate does not want to leave Old Trafford for Craven Cottage at this stage of his career.

With United struggling to move on the duo, Hannibal Mejbri seems the most likeliest to depart with the Tunisian even submitting a transfer request earlier in the window.

The 21-year-old, who hardly got any chances during his loan with Sevilla in the second-half of last season, is desperate for regular minutes.

Erik ten Hag handed him only four starts last season and even praised his contributions before dropping him altogether without any explanations.

He is yet to feature in any matchday squad this season with Toby Collyer marching ahead of him in the midfield pecking order, which means chances will be few and far between for him should he stay.

Scottish giants Rangers and Celtic were both vying for the player hailing from Ivry-sur-Seine but it seems both could suffer rejection with United asking for more than the duo can afford.

As per MancWorld, there is plenty of interest from Ligue 1 and La Liga sides and that is where the Tunisia international’s future lies.

La Liga or Ligue 1 his next destination

“Hannibal was left out of Friday’s squad altogether and is expected to depart United in the latter stages of the summer market.

“Rangers were keen on the Tunisian, but a move to Spain or France seems more likely at this moment in time.”

Signed from Monaco’s academy in 2019 for a fee rising to €10 million, Hannibal’s current market value stands at €9 million with only one year left in his current deal.

Sevilla had the option of making last season’s loan permanent for around £15 million, but they opted out. United will struggle to earn as much now from his sale.
