Rangers linked with move for Championship striker, 24

Rangers are being linked with a move for free agent Tyrese Campbell, 24, with the striker looking for his next club after leaving Championship side Stoke.

Unfortunately his record makes for disquieting reading, having scored just 4 in 26 for the English outfit last season, and he’s never scored in the Premier League with just 4 appearances at that level, all as subs.

In fact if ever Rangers were linked to what counts as a midtable Championship middleman without any real X Factor to his career, it would be Tyrese Campbell.

His highest-ever market value was four years ago when he was 20, of £5M, and these days he’s barely worth £1M.

It’s been claimed that a host of Championship sides are also interested in his signature, including Cardiff City, Preston North End, Queens Park Rangers, Sheffield United and West Bromwich Albion, with Rangers also being credited, and that rather shows the calibre of side that his level is at.

We don’t want to be too harsh on the boy, he of course sadly lost his father Kevin before his time recently so there’s no denying his head might not be massively in the zone at the moment, which is of course completely understandable.

But from a clinical football point of view, Campbell falls considerably short of Rangers level, especially when we take his full career into account.

Just 31 goals in 142 appearances in the Championship, with the vast vast majority of these being as a striker.

In fact as pure striker he has just 56 goals in 142 appearances, but this includes Premier League 2 and other low-level competitions which are even lesser than the Championship.

In short, unfortunately, we have to say a big fat no to this one and we hope the reports linking Rangers’ interest in him are just using us as a name to drum up interest.

Avoid.
