Cristiano Ronaldo’s “homecoming” to Manchester United was one of the times which will be used as an example of “You should never go back”.

Multiple managers couldn’t handle his ego and personality and he eventually left after a scorched earth interview.

Brought to the club by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he player under Ralf Rangnick and Erik ten Hag as well.

Solskjaer has already admitted that this move didn’t work out while Ten Hag was the one who eventually got rid of him.

Now, it seems that Ronaldo gave an extremely hard time to Ralf Rangnick as well.

German outlet Bild’s Marcel Reif reports one of the conversations Ronaldo had with Rangnick that puts into perspective how much weight the Portuguese was throwing around during his time at the club.

Reif reports that Ronaldo told Rangnick how he should be used and laid out some pretty remarkable conditions.

Ronaldo reportedly told Rangnick that he would be playing four out of every five games but in the one game he wasn’t playing, he wouldn’t be sitting on the bench.

Ronaldo “obliged” enough to let Rangnick decide which game he was going to be dropped for but spelt out pretty clearly that if he wasn’t playing, he’d sit at home.

Not being available to the team in case of a moment of need just for the sake of not “being a bench player” makes it clear why Ronaldo was never going to work out at Old Trafford.

He infamously walked out mid-game after Ten Hag had elected to put him on the bench and that is the action he would be remembered for in his second spell at United.

Rangnick, of course, had to deal with a completely dysfunctional United locker room, a theme which seems to have continued under Ten Hag.

His suggestions of an “open heart surgery” of the squad were ignored and it looks like that is a prediction that will age well for the German, who has also rebuilt his reputation at the Austrian national team, leaving United as the only losers of this saga.
