Arnau Tenas was one of the many young talents who left FC Barcelona during the summer of 2023.

The goalkeeper, a product of the La Masia setup, was regarded as the future No. 1 at the club but ended up leaving as a free agent, signing for PSG after his contract expired.

Tenas blames Barcelona

Now, speaking in an interview with Que T’hi Jugues (h/t Fabrizio Romano), Tenas has laid the blame at Barcelona’s feet for his exit, claiming that the club never offered him a contract renewal.

“I left Barça because the club didn’t offer me a contract renewal,” said the 23-year-old former La Masia trainee.

Continuing, Tenas insisted that he would have signed any contract that Barcelona would have offered and would have been open to leaving the club on loan after renewing as well. However, an offer never arrived.

“I would have signed any contract given by the club, even go on loan if they wanted…,” the current PSG goalkeeper added.

What happened with Tenas and Barcelona?

Tenas’ contract with Barcelona expired on June 30, 2023. The club had the option of activating a two-year extension in the deal but decided against it as they felt his new wages would not fit into the current economic reality of the club.

Having done so, the Blaugrana were said to have made attempts to negotiate a new deal with Tenas and his representatives, with former manager Xavi Hernandez even stating that he wished to see the 23-year-old re-sign with the club.

Now, though, Tenas is stating that there was never a contract offer from Barcelona which led to him moving on and signing for PSG.
