Paris Saint-Germain will take on Chelsea in the FIFA Club World Cup final this Sunday, after absolutely dismantling Real Madrid with a 4-0 win in the semi-final in New Jersey - a result that arguably flattered the Spanish side, who could’ve lost by an even bigger margin.
The reigning European champions were already 3-0 up within 24 minutes thanks to a brace from Fabián Ruiz and a well-taken goal from Ousmane Dembélé, leaving Madrid looking completely out of their depth.
If not for two brilliant saves from Thibaut Courtois and some wayward finishing from PSG, the scoreline could’ve been far worse. Eventually, Gonçalo Ramos added a deserved fourth late on, sealing an emphatic result for Luis Enrique’s side.
The victory marked PSG’s 48th of the season - setting a new club record, beating the previous one from the 2015/2016 campaign under Laurent Blanc.
If anyone was still unsure about who the best team in the world is, this tournament has pretty much put that debate to bed.
After storming to Champions League glory - dispatching the likes of Manchester City at the Parc des Princes, then seeing off Liverpool, Aston Villa and Arsenal, before hammering Inter 5-0 in the most one-sided final the competition has ever seen - PSG have looked unstoppable.
Now they’ll go up against Chelsea - the fifth English side to play against them in 2025 - with the chance to cap off a historic year. Winning the Club World Cup would give them their fifth trophy of 2025, having already bagged the Champions League, Ligue 1, Coupe de France and Trophée des Champions.
And they’re not done yet - the UEFA Super Cup awaits in August, and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup is scheduled for December. All things considered, PSG are well on their way to being remembered as one of the greatest teams football has ever seen.
