Paris Saint-Germain have been sanctioned for offensive banners that targeted former player Adrien Rabiot during last month’s Le Classique.

A hostile reception had been expected for the former PSG midfielder, who now plies his trade for fierce rivals Olympique de Marseille. The France international captained OM as they lost 3-1 in mid-March.

Off the pitch and in the stands, there were offensive chants and banners directed at Rabiot and his mother, Véronique. One of them read: “Loyalty for men, betrayal for whores – like mother, like son.” Those banners have been widely denounced, including by FFF president Philippe Diallo.

The LFP’s disciplinary commission took their time to evaluate the case, however, the verdict is now in. The Auteuil stand, where the offensive banners appeared, will be partially closed for the match against Le Havre AC later this month. However, it will remain open for the match against SCO Angers this weekend, when PSG are expected to wrap up the title. Les Parisiens have also been handed a find of 20,000.
