PSG refuse to pay €55m to Kylian Mbappé, despite LFP ruling with dispute set to go to court | OneFootball

The Kylian Mbappé-Paris Saint-Germain dispute drags on. The LFP’s legal committee ordered PSG to pay their former player €55m in unpaid wages and bonuses. However, the reigning Ligue 1 champions have refused this judgement The matter could now go to court.

Mbappé went unpaid for the final three months of his PSG contract, from April to June, prior to his move to Real Madrid. The refusal to pay the wages came amid a dispute and a messy divorce between the two parties. Les Parisiens believed that they had an oral, gentleman’s agreement with the France captain that they wouldn’t lose out financially, in the event that he left on a free transfer, which of course he did.

That agreement, the club has argued, was stated publically in January, when Mbappé said the following: “With the agreement that I made with the president this summer, regardless of my decision, (at the end of the 2023/24 campaign) we have managed to protect all parties, maintain serenity at the club for the future challenges – that’s the most important thing.”

PSG prepared to take Mbappé to court

However, Mbappé took the matter to the LFP legal committee in early August. On Wednesday, PSG thought that they had struck a minor victory when the LFP recommended that a legal mediation be set up between the two parties. PSG publically praised the decision, but Mbappé rejected it.

The LFP then announced on Thursday that PSG must pay Mbappé the €55m in unpaid wages and bonuses within eight days, as reported by Le Parisien. However, the PSG have released a statement, stating their dissatisfaciton with the ruling, maintaining their stance that they will not pay.  The club have warned their former forward that he will therefore have to take legal action. PSG are therefore prepared to take the dispute to court.
