Paris Saint-Germain dominated the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie against Liverpool at the Parc des Princes last week but it wasn’t enough for them to take a lead to Anfield.
PSG launched a barrage on Alisson’s goal, but the Brazilian goalkeeper was equal to Les Parisiens’ efforts, putting in what he described as perhaps the best performance of his career before Harvey Elliott gave the sucker punch. As a result of what former Red Jamie Carragher described as “one of the biggest robberies in football”, Liverpool face PSG at Anfield tonight with a one-goal lead to protect.
Both publically and internally, the Ligue 1 leaders have remained positive of their chance of progression to the next round of the Champions League, however, speaking pre-match, Luis Enrique conceded that a more difficult task will likely await his side.
“The circumstances will be different. The match will be more even, obviously, but I am confident. It is important to control the important phases of play, defend together and attack together,” said the Spaniard.
He added, “You can’t be at 105% because you cannot exaggerate but it isn’t easy to be at 100%. These aren’t easy matches to prepare for.” Luis Enrique is used to a remontada having revered a 4-0 deficit when Barcelona manager, against PSG, before as manager of Les Parisiens, reversing a deficit against Barça last season. He will have to mastermind another comeback at Anfield tonight.
