The 2025 UEFA Conference League final will take place in the Wrocław Stadium in Wrocław Poland, with Real Betis taking on Chelsea in the competition’s fourth final since its inception in the 2021/22 season.
Real Betis will be contesting their first European final in what will be an emotional day for the club from Seville. Having qualified for the Europa League by finishing sixth in La Liga, they will be looking to enter the competition after also making history as Conference League champions.
Real Betis are hoping to continue the superb record of Spanish clubs winning all 23 UEFA finals they’ve participated in since 2001. With their city rivals Sevilla having won 6 Europa League titles, Betis will relish this as an opportunity to taste European glory themselves.
Chelsea are aiming to become the first club to complete a full set of major European trophies,by adding the Conference League to their Champions League and Europa League titles. Having secured Champions League football with a 1-0 win against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, The Blues will fancy themselves to win their first trophy under manager Enzo Maresca.
They will be backed by their strong record in European finals, having won six of their seven major European finals. It will also be a reunion for Maresca and Manuel Pellegrini, with Maresca playing under Pellegrini during his managerial stint at Malaga, and the now Real Betis manager inspiring him to take up coaching once he retired.
For Real Betis, Antony will be a key player to watch, having impressed on his loan move since joining from Manchester United in January. The Brazilian forward poses a record of nine goals and 5 assists in 25 games since his loan move and scored in both legs of Betis’ semi-final clash against Fiorentina in a 4-3 aggregate win. If the Spanish club are to win in Wrocław, they will need Antony to play his part. Their hopes will also rest on captain Isco, who will be looking to bring his winning experience to aid his side’s chances of winning the competition, having won five Champions League titles with Real Madrid.
In Chelsea’s case, Moisés Caicedo will likely play a key role, having been their outstanding player this season from defensive midfield. The Blues will be relying on his ability to snuff out danger in the middle of the park in what will likely be a tight match-up. Chelsea will also be hopeful that Cole Palmer has a say in the game, having picked up form considerably after a dry spell earlier in the season. They will be helped by his impressive goal-scoring record in finals, having scored in the 2024 European Championship final for England against Spain and the 2023 Community Shield final for Manchester City against Arsenal.
Real Betis manager Pellegrini insisted on the importance of his players managing their emotions well in order to have the best chance of success in the press conference before the game, saying: “To win, we need to be the same team we have been so far. We have to be able to manage the emotional side, because a big mistake could change the match.”
Chelsea manager Maresca stressed the importance of his wide winning the trophy in the build-up to the game.
“We can give the chance to this club and these fans to be the first club in Europe to win all the [major UEFA club] competitions. The Conference League is a starting point to build a winners’ mentality, and then to try to win more things and more titles.”
Kick-off for the 2024/25 Conference League final between Real Betis and Chelsea is scheduled for 20:00 BST [21:00 CEST] on Wednesday 28th May 2025.
