Captain Marc Lorenz has been dismissed without further notice by SC Preußen Münster, the 2.Bundesliga club have confirmed this evening, August 19.

Münster has also filed a complaint against the veteran midfielder, with the reason being “concrete evidence of irregularities related to donations”.

“As a major employer and ambassador for the region, SC Preußen Münster sees itself as responsible for fully upholding the club's integrity, it's values, and the public's trust".

The club emphasized that “despite the seriousness of the allegations, it values a fair trial and respectful treatment of the long-serving and deserving player".

Lorenz was absent with tendonitis for Münster's DfB-Pokal first-round defeat to Hertha BSC, but his situation appears to be more serious.

No further statements will be made by the Westphalian club until the ongoing investigations are completed by the investigating bodies.

The 37-year-old returned to Münster from Karlsruher SC three years ago, and Lorenz played a total of 158 games for the club. He only extended his contract in June.
