Nottingham Forest talisman Morgan Gibbs-White has never been shy in admitting his boyhood love for Manchester United.

Unfortunately for the Old Trafford faithful, his is a name that they’ll remember for all the wrong reasons after he dealt United an 82nd-minute dagger in the sides’ last Premier League meeting on December 30, sealing a 2-1 win for the Trees.

There have been calls in the past from portions of the fanbase to try and acquire Gibbs-White’s signature, although he’s enjoyed a vital starting role in his time at the City Ground and wouldn’t settle for anything less elsewhere.

Nevertheless, it’s pleasant to see that the club’s legends still hold such an influence over current top-flight footballers amidst a time of unfortunate Manchester City dominance.

Forest hero heaps praise on United legends

Gibbs-White, 24, was asked by the Professional Footballers’ Association which player past or present he’d most liked to have played with, to which he replied: “Paul Scholes.”

In fact, it’s not the first time he’s been vocal about his admiration for former Reds. In an interview with the Premier League last year, he gushed over the impact both Scholes and United’s all-time top goalscorer Wayne Rooney had on his career.

“Growing up as a kid, I supported United so Rooney was always my favourite player. He was the real key player in that squad – so calm and composed. He used to pick up pockets, run in behind, [and] score goals,” the Englishman revealed.

“Another player when I was growing up that I loved watching was Paul Scholes. He could pick the ball up and just zing it everywhere. He was just so calm and composed on the ball. That’s where my love for football came [from].”
