Manchester City have been heaped with praise by one of the Premier League’s stand-out defensive talents who has been attracting interest from Chelsea.

The Stamford Bridge club are in the process of another ambitious recruitment drive this summer, with some of their attentions revolving around the process of replacing legendary Brazilian defender Thiago Silva.

After his exit from the London club at the end of last season, Chelsea officials turned towards Nottingham Forest’s Murillo as part of their search for a new recruit in the role, with little to no progress having been made aside from initial enquiries.

But just how much the player himself would want to join Enzo Maresca’s new project remains to be seen, with the defender issuing a clear message of intent in Manchester City’s direction during a new interview this week.

Speaking to the ‘Benja Me Mucho’ YouTube channel, Nottingham Forest’s Murillo was not shy to issue Manchester City players and staff with praise for their achievements over the years, and reaffirm a ‘dream’ of playing for the Etihad Stadium club.

“They’re surreal,” the 21-year-old said. “They were already building a lot of things and it worked. Nowadays, Manchester City, for me, along with Real Madrid, is the best team in the world. The pieces they have and the coach they have do a lot the difference.”

But how would he react if Pep Guardiola ‘called him’ to bring across an interest in working with him at Manchester City?

“I would tremble,” the Brazilian admitted. “I think everyone nowadays dreams of playing for Manchester City, Real Madrid, especially at the stage they are at. They win at least one title every year and it’s a lot of competitiveness, not only from the coach, but from the players.”

He continued, “Guys lose a game and don’t accept it. For the guys, it’s just a victory and it works. Today they are reaping what they sowed.”

Unfortunately for Murillo and the evident hopes he has of playing for Manchester City in the near future, the Premier League champions hold little to no intent of recruiting in the central defensive roles this summer.

City were most recently linked with a move for Everton and England’s Jarrad Branthwaite, but the club themselves have been swift to make clear of their ‘surprise’ towards the rumours given their strength in the position.

Pep Guardiola has plenty of world-class and versatile options in the centre of defence, and with none of his five names expected to leave this summer, Manchester City would surprise many if they were to invest significantly in another name.
