Manchester City will not be presented with the Premier League trophy by the division’s chief executive Richard Masters this weekend, it has been confirmed.

Pep Guardiola’s side secured themselves the opportunity to claim a fourth successive Premier League title this Sunday afternoon, having recorded their first victory away to Tottenham in over nine years on Tuesday night.

Two goals in the second-half from ever-present goalscorer Erling Haaland secured all three points for Manchester City, who now know that they are simply one victory away from yet another English top-flight success.

West Ham are the opponents this weekend, with David Moyes’ side having little to play for other than pride given the pending exit of the Scotsman from the London Stadium, following confirmation earlier this month.

However, while Manchester City are the clear favourites for the Premier League title with their destiny in their own hands, the Premier League have confirmed that one key figure from their side will not be present at the Etihad Stadium.

The Premier League has confirmed this week that chief executive Richard Masters will attend Arsenal’s final game of the season against Everton on Sunday afternoon, as opposed to Manchester City’s finale against West Ham.

In the event of a fourth successive Premier League title win for Pep Guardiola’s side this weekend, the league have confirmed that Manchester City will be presented with the crown by chair Alison Brittain.

Masters’ absence from Manchester City’s potentially crowning moment this weekend comes in the shadow of the club’s ongoing clash with the Premier League over alleged breaches of financial rules.

When asked about the club’s 115 charges last month, Richard Masters told the media, “We can’t comment on the case, the date has been set, and the case will resolve itself in the near future.”

When asked whether a second Manchester City title while the 115 charges remained outstanding was a problem, Masters added, “It’s not for the football authorities to start being selective about who they would like to win the league.

“The key point is that you’ve got that jeopardy until the final day.”

The Premier League have also confirmed a number of plans for the final day of the season, with some level of uncertainty hanging over the direction of the top-flight crown, albeit hanging heavily in favour of Manchester City.

It was reported earlier this week that two identical Premier League trophies will be present at either contest, with the name of the winners only engraved onto the title after the trophy lift has been completed on Sunday afternoon.

In addition, a set of 40 Premier League medals has also been prepared for each match, whilst fireworks, confetti, and a stage will be on standby behind-the-scenes at both the Etihad Stadium and Emirates Stadium.
