It ended Newcastle 3 SpVgg Unterhaching 1 two weeks ago in a match played behind closed doors at the end of the first-team’s stay at the Adidas HQ’s world-class training facility in Germany. Barnes, Murphy and Isak with first-half goals.

Then the following Saturday the first pre-season match played in public, a 2-0 win at Hull, the goals again in the first half, Isak and Murphy once again on the scoresheet.

Wednesday was another step up and a very good display, including some excellent attacking moments. Isak, Hall and Murphy(2) with the goals in a 4-1 win over Urawa Red Diamonds.

Great to see Newcastle United progressing well through pre-season and scoring goals, both Isak and Murphy have scored in all three friendlies so far, Murphy actually with four goals in the three games played.

As a starting point, this was the Newcastle team v Urawa Red Diamonds three days ago:

Nick Pope, Tino Livramento, Emil Krafth, Dan Burn (c), Lewis Hall, Joe Willock, Sean Longstaff, Jacob Murphy, Joelinton, Harvey Barnes, Alexander Isak

So what, if any, changes can we expect in Eddie Howe’s starting eleven today, his Newcastle team v Yokohama F Marinos?

Those who definitely won’t play, as they didn’t travel – Kieran Trippier, Anthony Gordon, Lewis Miley, Sven Botman, Jamaal Lascelles, Callum Wilson and Matt Targett, as well as Joe White, Garang Kuol, Ellis Stanton, Dylan Charlton, Johnny Emerson, Anthony Munda and Ciaran Thompson. Trippier and Gordon of course given extended leave due to England not finishing their Euros campaign until 14 July. Also, whilst Sandro Tonali has travelled to Japan, his ban covers these pre-season friendlies as well.

At the start of the week, Eddie Howe said that he expected new signing Lloyd Kelly to get some minutes on the pitch out in Japan, however, he indicated that today’s game was more likely for the player he also bought whilst at Bournemouth. Kelly wasn’t named in the matchday squad on Wednesday.

Eddie Howe welcomed another four players back who were on international duty this summer, with Bruno Guimaraes, Fabian Schar, Martin Dubravka and Miguel Almiron part of the squad in Japan.

Almiron was the only one of those four who was named in the squad on Wednesday and he came off the bench in the second-half.

So where does that leave us?

Well, I predict this Newcastle team v Yokohama F Marinos:

Nick Pope, Tino Livramento, Fabian Schar, Lloyd Kelly, Lewis Hall, Joe Willock, Bruno Guimaraes, Miguel Almiron, Joelinton, Harvey Barnes, Alexander Isak

Obviously everything will depend on how they are fitness-wise but I have gone for four changes.

With only two weeks to go until the Premier League season kicks off and just two more friendlies to go after this one, Eddie Howe getting some key players back out on the pitch.

So I have gone for Bruno Guimaraes to come in for Sean Longstaff.

Then at the back, a totally different central defensive pairing, Fabian Schar to get his first action action of pre-season and Lloyd Kelly his first ever minutes in a Newcastle United shirt. With Emil Krafth and Dan Burn dropping to the bench.

Whilst on the right, Miguel Almiron to get his first pre-season start and Jacob Murphy dropping to the bench.

However, even if I am proved correct with my predicted team, the likes of Burn, Krafth, Murphy and Longstaff, will for sure still get minutes from the bench.
