If you’re reading this, chances are that you still have some feelings about the 4-0 loss to Barcelona on Wednesday. I’m certainly still disgruntled, but thankfully we don’t have to worry about Barcelona for a few more days! Alas, we still have to examine the other FCB: Bayern Munich.
Champions League aside, Borussia Dortmund has looked strong in the Bundesliga since returning from the International Break. First, it was a 3-1 win over Mainz, and then last Saturday we saw the Black and Yellows make short work of SC Freiburg, beating them 4-1 in a dominant display. Niko Kovač’s 3-5-2 seemed to have been the magic system to get the best out of his players.
I’d love to be optimistic, but we’re talking about Bayern Munich here, so it’s a difficult task. Bayern did lose at home to Inter Milan midweek, which could foretell some cracks in their home-stadium armor, but in recent history, Bayern tends to make a statement following a tough loss. It is worth noting that Dortmund were successful in defeating Bayern in their home stadium last spring, and Vincent Kompany’s Bayern was unable to beat Nuri Sahin’s Dortmund in November. At least the curse is broken… I hope.
