Manchester United have held ‘positive talks’ with Lecce over signing Patrick Dorgu, according to journalist Dharmesh Sheth (via Sky Sports).

United tabled a second bid of £25.3 million for the talented left-back last week, but Lecce rejected it.

The Red Devils are now ready to increase their offer. The ‘fee under discussion is in the region of £30m, with negotiations continuing over the structure’.

There would be no problem reaching a personal agreement with Dorgu, who is open to joining Man United.

His family are also ‘pushing’ for a move to Old Trafford. They believe it could be a ‘turning point’ in his career.

United will ‘walk away’ if they fail to agree a suitable deal with Lecce. They will consider ‘triggering the buyback clause’ for Benfica defender Alvaro Fernandez.

They ‘sent officials’ to watch him during Benfica’s Primeira Liga clash with Casa Pia over the weekend.

United must sign a left-wing-back in this transfer window

The left wing-back position has been a significant concern for manager Ruben Amorim.

He cannot rely on Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw, the natural left-wing-back options in United’s squad.

Amorim has been forced to use Diogo Dalot in the position, but he has struggled.

Noussair Mazraoui started as a left-wing-back against Fulham before Amorim introduced Malacia in the second half.

Mazraoui could not help United create goalscoring opportunities. He also struggled defensively, winning two of the five ground duels he contested.

Amorim had to substitute the Moroccan in the second half.

Man United must sign a proper left-wing back before the end of this transfer window to boost their chances of finishing the season strongly.
