Cristian Chivu was spotted meeting with Inter directors this evening and it was positive, with a two-year contract ready to be signed on Friday.

The Romanian was caught on camera on the balcony of a hotel in central Milan, along with Nerazzurri chief Dario Baccin.

President Beppe Marotta and director of sport Piero Ausilio were also spotted leaving the hotel a few hours later.

It was organised after Inter decided to go for Chivu as the replacement once Simone Inzaghi accepted the proposal from Al-Hilal.

The first choice had been Cesc Fabregas, but Como refused point blank to allow direct negotiations with the Spaniard.

Genoa’s Patrick Vieira was another alternative, yet Chivu had two very important elements making him the only genuine choice.

The first is that he was available, having only penned a short-term contract with Parma in February.

Along with that, he has a very strong bond with Inter, having played in the squad that won the Treble, then spent almost his entire management career in their youth academy until the first solo experience at Parma.

He will be at the club headquarters tomorrow and put pen to paper on a two-year contract, which should be worth circa €1.5m per season.
