The League One champions will be looking to consolidate their position in the division this coming season, and face an important summer of transfer business if they're to do so.

One of the most important pieces of business the club could do this summer is ensuring skipper Marlon Pack remains at the club, with his two-year deal at Fratton Park expiring at the end of the month.

Losing the man who led Pompey to the second tier would be a disaster, and they'll desperately hope he puts pen to paper on a new contract.

It was reported by The News that the midfielder had agreed terms on a new deal at the end of May, but with nothing signed a couple of weeks on, Pompey fans can be forgiven if they were starting to get nervous.

We asked our Portsmouth fan pundit Miltos Ioannidis what he expects to happen at Fratton Park this summer, and it was clear that he wasn't too concerned that Pack was yet to put pen to paper on a new deal.

Speaking to Football League World, he said: "I think I’m going to go with Marlon Pack and Connor Ogilvie extending their contracts.

"I think the Marlon Pack situation is a bit different because he just came back from vacation, so that might take a bit more time, but the feeling around the place is that Marlon Pack is going to extend his stay at Fratton Park. There is no real worry that Pack will leave Pompey."

Miltos also urged Pompey to use the loan market to allow some of their younger players to get first-team minutes elsewhere, helping to speed up their development.

He said: “For outgoings, I think I’m going to go with Ryley Towler leaving on loan. I love Ryley. He started the first game of last season but fell down the pecking order to Regan Poole, Connor Shaughnessy and Sean Raggett.

“In my opinion, he’s at a stage in his career now where he needs gametime, and he needs to play every week, and I think a loan would be a very good option for him and his development.”

A new deal for Marlon Pack would be a huge boost for Portsmouth

Not only is Pack Pompey's captain, but he possesses a wealth of Championship experience which would be crucial for the club given they're a newly-promoted side.

During his spells at Bristol City and Cardiff City he made 269 appearances in the second tier, and if Pompey were to lose that sort of experience, it would certainly be a huge blow to their survival hopes.

The 33-year-old isn't the flashiest of players, but he's hardworking, experienced and a leader, and every side needs someone like him, particularly a newly-promoted outfit.

With terms seemingly being agreed at the end of last month, you'd have expected a new deal to be signed, sealed and delivered by now, but that's not the case.

John Mousinho will be hoping his skipper signs on the dotted line in the near future, and they can start planning for the season ahead - it would be a huge boost for their survival hopes.
