Hellas Verona defender Pawel Dawidowicz has been included in Michal Probierz’s Poland squad for their upcoming June internationals, as the centre-back approaches the expiry of his contract with the Gialloblu at the end of the month.

Probierz has named Dawidowicz among his defensive options for a friendly against Moldova on 6 June in Chorzów, followed by a World Cup qualifying fixture against Finland, scheduled for 10 June in Helsinki. The 28-year-old is joined in the national team selection by a group featuring Premier League representatives Jan Bednarek and Matty Cash, as well as Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior and Serie A colleagues Sebastian Walukiewicz and Bartosz Bereszynski.

Dawidowicz’s recall comes at a pivotal moment for both player and club. Having played a steady if unspectacular role in Hellas Verona’s ultimately successful fight for Serie A survival, he now faces an uncertain future at club level with his contract due to expire on 30 June. Whether this exposure on the international stage influences his next steps remains to be seen.

Poland’s schedule begins with the home warm-up against Moldova before the more consequential encounter in Finland, part of the qualification pathway towards the next World Cup. Dawidowicz will hope to add to his collection of caps and stake a claim for a regular place, particularly as Poland look to adjust their backline options ahead of the qualifiers.

The selection caps off a testing 2024–25 season on the domestic front for Dawidowicz and Verona. The defender featured regularly as the side dealt with managerial changes and intense relegation pressure, ultimately retaining their place in Serie A in the closing matches of the campaign. For Dawidowicz, whose time in Verona could be coming to an end, the call-up represents both recognition of his consistent club contributions and an opportunity to further impress on the international stage just as his future comes under the spotlight.
