Celtic made history last night with a 2-0 win over Ukrainian Champions FK Vorskla Poltava at the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie. That gave Elena Sadiku’s side a 3-0 aggregate victory and a place in the UEFA Women’s Champions League Group stages, with the draw taking place around midday today…

In terms of the financial benefit to the Celtic FC Women side the club receives £334,000 for clinching qualification and that is on top of the £67,000 and £83,000 for progressing through the first and second rounds of qualification. That’s £484,000 GUARANTEED with more to come in terms of payments for wins and draws.

On top of that Celtic will get the ticket revenue and as a support we really should be getting behind the Ghirls and breaking our own attendance records for women’s matches in Scotland. That is going to need the Green Brigade and the Bhoys Celtic to step up and bring the Noise and the numbers.

But every Celtic supporter should try to back the team in these three historic Champions League matches. As already mentioned this morning a comment from a Celtic Star reader rings true, Celtic is a club, it’s not just one team. We have TWO teams in the Champions League, one will be fully backed 100%, the other cannot be overlooked.
