Manchester City have been left sweating on the fitness of Phil Foden after the England forward revealed an aggravation to a reoccurring foot injury.

The 22 year-old has been in fine form for Pep Guardiola’s side in recent matches, scoring a brace in the 0-3 win over Bristol City last week, before opening the scoring for Manchester City in the weekend’s victory over Newcastle United in the Premier League.

Foden’s solo goal against Eddie Howe’s side on Saturday afternoon set the tone for a professional performance from the reigning Premier League champions, as they continue their chase down of Arsenal at the top of the table.

However, the Manchester City star has left medical and coaching staff sweating in the aftermath of the performance, revealing that he had aggravated the foot problem that has kept him out of starting line-ups in recent weeks, and contributed to under par showings.

Speaking on the subject of the foot problem, Phil Foden revealed that the issue was recently made worse during the recent defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

“Yes, it was the derby, I had it just before but it wasn’t too serious then. I damaged it a bit more against United,” said Foden.

In a more worrying update for Manchester City, Foden revealed that the same problem was aggravated during the 2-0 win over Newcastle United on Saturday, as he said, “Unfortunately I’ve kind of hurt it again but now I need to rest up.

“We’ve got two days off now so hopefully I’ll have the chance to rest it. Sometimes it is rest you need. It’s one of those injuries where physios can’t really help. It goes when it goes, you have to learn how to manage it.

Phil Foden continued, “Whether it’s not training as much, just doing partial training, trying to look after it, I’m just trying to find that balance, trying to keep feeling good.”

Manchester City will be hoping that Phil Foden returns in time for the weekend’s Premier League clash at Selhurst Park, as the reigning Champions travel to London to take on Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace side.

City will once again have the opportunity to temporarily cut the gap between themselves and Arsenal to two points with a victory, as the Gunners embark on their own fixture against Fulham on Sunday afternoon.
