Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva has revealed that he will no longer be involved in future penalty shoot-outs.

The 30-year-old has missed from the spot in successive shoot-outs for Manchester City, seeing his efforts saved against both Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League and Manchester United in the FA Community Shield.

Silva’s latest miss wasn’t detrimental to the Blues’ silverware ambitions at Wembley Stadium, with Pep Guardiola’s side going on to beat local rivals Manchester United in the shoot-out, as Manuel Akanji capitalised on Jonny Evans’ miss.

The Manchester City midfielder had forced the game to a shoot-out with a late equaliser in north London, cancelling out Alejandro Garnacho’s strike in the 89th minute.

Silva’s penalty misfortune in a Manchester City shirt hasn’t extended to the Portugal national team however, where the 30-year-old netted emphatically during the European Championship in Germany this summer.

Despite scoring for Roberto Martinez’s side, the midfielder has now revealed that he has been axed from penalty shoot-out duties for Manchester City by Guardiola, following the FA Community Shield.

“Pep already told me that I’m not taking the next one, so you guys don’t need to worry about that,” revealed the 30-year-old.

“I feel a bit frustrated in terms of the penalty was not what I practised at all in training. And it’s the second one in a row that I miss for Man City. So yeah, a bit frustrated.”

Goalkeeper Ederson dispatched a penalty during the shoot-out against Manchester United earlier this month, meanwhile Erling Haaland has assumed main responsibility for spot kicks since arriving in 2022 from Borussia Dortmund.

Haaland scored from the penalty mark against Ipswich Town at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon, with the Norwegian striker going on to score his 10th Manchester City hat-trick, and seventh in the Premier League.
