Prominent Italian football journalist Alfredo Pedullà argues Lazio have been performing better on the market after splitting paths with Igli Tare.

The Albanian had spent the final three years of his playing career at Formello before being appointed as sporting director after hanging up his boots in 2008. The 51-year-old served in this post for 15 years before vacating it in 2023, making way for Angelo Fabiani.

Tare recently discussed his time at the club as well as Lazio’s current status in an interview, and some of his statements didn’t sit well with Pedullà. The transfer market guru noted on his X account that the former Biancocelesti director has a habit of speaking ill about the club, but insists that Lazio are now in a better place following his departure.

Pedullà then highlighted on his website how the Italian capital side is finding more success on the market and building a solid foundation under Marco Baroni’s watch.

There is a fresh air at Lazio. And it is no coincidence that there is at least a minimum of coherence and quality in the purchases conducted after Tare’s farewell and with the arrival of Fabiani. The most important thing is this: people are having fun. They have consolidated the sense of belonging at the club and above all they are watching quality displays thanks to Marco Baroni’s work. The latter was a clear, decisive and unequivocal choice by Fabiani himself. While it’s still too early to draw conclusions, we can certainly celebrate a clean break from the past.

Pedulla then went on to enumerate a number of blunders commited by Tare during his years in charge.

Tare is remembered for the arrivals of Luis Alberto and Milenkovic-Savic which ensued a long time ago. We can easily come up with an infamous list full of sensational flops as well as money thrown down the drain. But that would take us forever. Better to summarize it like this: Lazio went from Kakuta and Durmisi to Tavares and Dia. The story of Wallace at €8 million and Akpa Akpro at almost €13 million should also be told. Perhaps a (horror) documentary should be made, so let’s end it here.
