Tottenham Hotspur full-back Pedro Porro has admitted links to Real Madrid make him proud as the Spanish giants search for a long-term successor to Dani Carvajal.

Porro has impressed fans in the Premier League with his creativity, though he was one of the Spurs defenders who came in for criticism after the sloppy 3-2 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has reportedly been earmarked as Los Blancos' prime target to replace Carvajal, who is out for the rest of the 2024/25 campaign with an anterior cruciate ligament injury, but Porro is another slated player of interest.

Speaking upon his return to the Spain setup, Porro revealed he is aware of the rumours of Madrid's interest and says it means he's playing well for Spurs.

He told Relevo: "It fills you with excitement, doesn't it? You have to focus on your work, but the fact that Real Madrid is interested in you is because you are doing things well. That's how I think about it on a day-to-day basis.

"Well, if that moment has to come, it will come. And if it doesn't, well, I'll just keep working as I have been doing."

Porro's defensive flaws were exposed when he first signed for Tottenham in the final few months of Antonio Conte's reign, though his prowess in the final third was clear as the 25-year-old scored three goals in his first 17 appearances for the Lilywhites.

He has since nailed down the right-back spot under Ange Postecoglou, scoring three times and supplying seven assists in the Australian's first campaign in north London.

Asked if he feels ready to make the step up to the level of Madrid, he responded: "Yes. Obviously yes, because as I told you, I try to work and give my best every day. If I get the chance to make that leap tomorrow, I will be prepared for that very reason. I will have much more experience. If you had told me this years ago, I would have told you that I wasn't. Because I'm being honest. Let's see what happens."
