While Barcelona boasts a wealth of defensive talent, Pau Cubarsi continues to stand out. Despite his young age, the Spanish defender has firmly established himself as a regular starter under Hansi Flick. With impressive defensive skills and exceptional ball-playing ability, Cubarsi is proving to be one of Barça’s most promising gems.

Barcelona’s preseason tour has seen several players in excellent form, and Cubarsi is no exception. With solid performances in both Japan and South Korea, the teenager is showing maturity beyond his years.

After starting both preseason games, Cubarsi spoke to TV3, as highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, sharing his views on Flick’s tactics, the team’s leadership, and his own progress.

When asked if Hansi Flick’s risky high-line tactic would still be used this season, Pau Cubarsi suggested that it would be, but possibly not to the same extremes as last season:

Maybe it won’t be as exaggerated as last year, but we’ll still follow the same style.

Speaking about Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, Cubarsi claimed that he had the German goalkeeper’s back:

We don’t decide anything. For now, Marc is part of the squad. He’s our captain, our guide, and our main support. He’s with us, we’re very happy, and we hope it stays that way.

However, the young defender does not see himself as being a good candidate to be a club captain just yet:

In youth football, I wore the captain’s armband. But I still need to improve my communication to gain leadership.

Speaking about the new signing, Joan Garcia, the Barcelona defender, had nothing but positive things to say about their connection:

We shared the squad for the 2024 Olympic Games; we have things in common, we’re both from small towns. We connect on that level. He’s a spectacular guy and I really like him.

Moving forward, fans can expect to see Garcia and Cubarsi in action a lot. Both players will likely be regular starters under Hansi Flick, and it should greatly benefit Barcelona.
