Parisians win the Coupe de France in thriller with Fleury! | OneFootball

Paris Saint-Germain Women team beat FC Fleury 91 1-0 in the Women's Coupe de France final at the Stade de la Mosson in Montpellier on Saturday 4 May. Here's a look back at the Parisians' sensational win!

Less than a week after their UEFA Women's Champions League campaign came to an end, the Parisians were back on the pitch with a new objective: to win their first title of the season in the Women's Coupe de France final. However, Les Rouge et Bleu were up against formidable opponents, who had knocked out Olympique Lyonnais in the previous round: FC Fleury 91, currently fourth in the D1 Arkema.

Jocelyn Prêcheur lined up a central defence of Elisa De Almeida, Thiniba Samoura and Eva Gaetino to protect the goal tended by 'keeper Constance Picaud. Sakina Karchaoui played on the left flank and Amalie Vangsgaard on the right. In midfield, captain Grace Geyoro was joined by Korbin Albert and Jackie Groenen while up front, Sandy Baltimore and Tabitha Chawinga formed a duo that promised plenty of impact.

The start of the match went in Paris' favour, with Karchaoui proving enterprising with a lot of dangerous runs down the left flank. But the defence remained alert to the incursions of the Parisian flanker and her team-mate Tabitha Chawinga. The capital club then had to be patient to keep control of the game and try to create gaps in their opponents' rearguard.

But, faced with a deep bloc that left very little space between the lines, Les Rouge et Bleu had no choice but to adapt. Korbin Albert tried her luck from distance before turning provider for a second attempt by Sandy Baltimore, which ultimately went wide (32'). Despite undoubtedly dominating the game, Paris were up against a solid Fleury side and went into the break with the score still locked at 0-0.

From the start of the second half, Jocelyn Prêcheur's players tried to get the game moving by putting more pace into their passing. But against a very well-organised Floriacum side, there were few gaps to exploit. Korbin Albert tried her luck again from outside the box, but was still unable to trouble Manon Heil (59'). Moments later, Thiniba Samoura picked up a second yellow card for shirt-pulling, leaving her team to continue the match shorthanded (66').

It was a turn of events that completely changed the course of the match, and which forced Fleury to play higher up the pitch. This allowed the Essonne outfit to threaten Constance Picaud's goal for the first time in the match, but Elisa De Almeida sacrificed herself to thwart their opponents' attempt in the box (71'). However, Fleury also exposed themselves for the first time when they played higher up the pitch, and the Parisians took full advantage to open the scoring thanks to a fine piece of skill from new signing Lieke Martens van Leer (1-0, 73')! It was a liberating goal for Paris, who even came close to doubling their lead through Grace Geyoro (80') and Tabitha Chawinga (82'). Les Rouge et Bleu held on until the last second to win the fourth Women's Coupe de France in the club's history!

The Parisians now return to league action, where they will play Stade de Reims, currently fifth in the D1 Arkema, in Reims on Wednesday (18:00). Something of a dead rubber before a crucial encounter three days later, when Paris Saint-Germain Women play host to Paris FC in the D1 semi-final, the last match of the season at the Parc des Princes. The match will be played on Saturday 11 May at 21:00, with a place in the final up for grabs for our Parisians!
