Swansea City's Nathan Tjoe-A-On is reportedly attracting interest from Championship rivals Oxford United

Oxford United have reportedly made "initial enquiries" about a move for Swansea City defender Nathan Tjoe-A-On following their promotion to the Championship.

It's reported by Wales Online that Des Buckingham's side have made contact with the Indonesian international as they look to bolster their squad ahead of life in the second tier, with the 22-year-old still yet to make his debut for Swansea after joining last summer.

The left-back joined Swansea from Excelsior Rotterdam last August, but after failing to make a first-team appearance for the club, he was loaned to Heerenveen in January, but struggled for regular match action there, making just four substitute appearances in the Eredivisie.

In total, Tjoe-A-On played just 19 minutes of club football last season, so a move away from the Swansea.com Stadium isn't out of the question this summer, despite having two years left on his deal.

Transfer interest in Nathan Tjoe-A-On

Despite failing to make any sort of impact in south Wales last season, Tjoe-A-On hasn't been short of transfer interest, and Oxford United aren't the only side interested in the Rotterdam-born full-back.

Wales Online have also reported that Eredivisie side Almere City, along with Eerste Divisie side FC Emmen are keen on a move for the 22-year-old, so the Yellows will certainly face competition to get a deal over the line.

It's reported that all three clubs have only made initial enquires, and that Tjoe-A-On is set to feature in Swansea's pre-season plans, but his future beyond the end of the summer is still undecided.

Given his failure to make an impact in English football last season, it's somewhat surprising to see a Championship club interested in his services, but Swansea clearly saw something in the Indonesian international to bring him to the club last year, and as a newly-promoted side, Oxford don't have the spending power of some clubs in the division.

Swansea paid a reported £300,000 to sign him from Excelsior last summer, and despite having two years left on his deal, it remains to be seen if they can command a similar fee if they were to sell him after a disappointing season.

However, a fee of around £300,000 would likely be affordable for Oxford should they wish to sign him, so the transfer fee shouldn't be an issue for the side from the Kassam Stadium.

With interest from England and the Netherlands, it would be quite surprising if Tjoe-A-On remained a Swansea City player, but no doubt Luke Williams will want to take a closer look when pre-season training gets underway.

Nathan Tjoe-A-On will have a point to prove

There's no doubting that Tjoe-A-On's first season in English football was a miserable one, but there are reasons to explain that.

He joined Swansea on the 13th August, when the Championship season was already underway, so he was already behind his peers in terms of match fitness and getting up to speed with tactics and style of play.

Then he fell further down the left-back pecking order thanks to Josh Tymon's arrival on deadline day, with Kristian Pedersen also joining - the Danish international able to play left-back too.

From there, the Indonesian international had to settle for a place on the bench, and if he were to join Oxford, he'd certainly have a point to prove in English football.

For a small fee, Tjoe-A-On could be a smart addition to the Yellows' squad, but it looks as if they're set to face stiff competition from the Netherlands.
