Oscar Gloukh (20) could have made the move to Olympique de Marseille in January, according to his father, Maxim, who made the revelation during an interview with ERETZ Sport.

Gloukh, amid reported interest from AS Monaco, joined Red Bull Salzburg in January 2023 from Maccabi Tel Aviv in a €7m deal. He has since established himself as a key player for the Austrian side. This season, he has 10 goals and six assists for RB Salzburg in 33 games in all competitions. Eight of those appearances have come in the UEFA Champions League, a competition in which he registered two assists.

He had the opportunity to leave Austria in January, the playmaker’s father has revealed. Les Phocéens, currently second in Ligue 1, made an approach for the Israel international, who was put off by security concerns.

“OM are an excellent team but the current situation elicited a certain fear. I was scared for him to sign there,” his father said, referencing the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. Gloukh has made 18 appearances for the Israel national team, scoring three goals in that time.
