Only two words to say to you as a Newcastle United fan

The last three and a half weeks have flew past, but I have been a lot calmer as a Newcastle United fan than I thought I would be, after NUFC finally hoisted their first trophy in 56 long years.

So have all my mates and family.

It’s great to get the monkey off our backs but our cup victory doesn’t seem like a one-off.

Let’s face it, if Newcastle United had have won one of our back to back FA Cup finals in 1998 and 1999, it would have probably taken another 30 years to bag another trophy.

The club is being properly run with ambitious owners. We have an innovative, intelligent and polite manager, and a first team containing some World class players.

There is a feeling of togetherness on and off the pitch, supporters have regained their smiling faces after years of abject torment and decline.

As I have said before, I absolutely loved seeing the young fresh-faced Lewis Miley, Sean Neave and Will Osula enjoying their moment in the post match Wembley celebrations.

Young lads just setting out in the professional game, with what looks like exciting times ahead.

It was also wonderful to witness what our Cup triumph meant to the more experienced players.

Joy, relief and contentment.

It’s the same in the pubs, streets and workplaces. Old and young getting a feeling of warm happiness at long last.

Eddie Howe has created a team that has made our great city proud once again.

As a younger man I used to like listening to the older blokes when they regaled old tales of Cup glories long gone.

They said that it was what kept them going after long shifts down the pits and in the yards.

The potential for Newcastle United, our city, region, all it’s inhabitants, has never been as great.

One thing that definitely won’t happen is that we’ll all somehow get carried away.
