It has been no coincidence that Manchester City have returned to winning ways with Nathan Ake back in the starting lineup. The Dutch international is a calming presence at the back of City’s lineup. That has stood out during the world champions past three games. Ake has played through the pain barrier as one of Manchester City’s most dependable players has gone above and beyond for his team.

Pep Guardiola thanked Nathan Ake for his recent efforts following Manchester City’s 4-1 win over West Ham. The City manager praised the efforts of Ake for playing through injury: “I want to say thank you to Nathan publicly because he’s played in a bad condition the last two or three games, especially against Everton and Leicester and made an incredible effort because he wasn’t fully recovered. With Nathan, we are better; he is stable emotionally. With that and hopefully Ruben [Dias] and John [Stones], and hopefully [other] players coming back, we can find the right moment.”

Nathan Ake has always been one of Manchester City’s most consistent and dependable players. Since arriving at the club from Bournemouth his reputation is well established. But during his team’s past three games, Ake has played through duress to help his team. It has been a commendable effort from the Dutch international. Ake’s efforts have been worthy of Guardiola’s praise and his return to City’s starting lineup have helped them return to winning ways against Leicester City and West Ham.

But it is no surprise that Nathan Ake has stepped up when his team has needed him. He has always done that during his time at the club. Ake has always been one of Manchester City’s most dependable and consistent players. He has once again stepped up for his team and it’s been a superb effort from the Dutch international.
