One of Marko Arnautovic or Joaquin Correa will remain in the Inter Milan squad for next season.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper anticipates that one of the duo will be the “fifth” striker in the depth chart.

Inter are starting to firm up their plans for the squad next season.

In attack, Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram will be the two players around which the attack is built.

Alexis Sanchez is leaving, and Mehdi Taremi is coming in on a free transfer.

Then, Tuttosport report, Inter will aim to make another big signing in attack. That is the priority of Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi, who wants plenty of quality, depth, and versatility to call upon in the forward positions.

Genoa forward Albert Gudmundsson is the priority target in that respect. The 26-year-old former AZ Alkmaar man offers a profile that Inter’s squad currently lacks.

Gudmundsson – or another signing – would make four strikers along with Martinez, Thuram, and Taremi.

But Inter won’t consider that sufficient, report Tuttosport.

Arnautovic Or Correa To Remain At Inter This Summer

Inter want five strikers in total. This extra depth would be to navigate a fixture list that is more packed than ever, between the expanded Champions League format and the Club World Cup.

And the “fifth” striker will be a player already on Inter’s books.

One possibility would be to keep hold of Arnautovic for another season.

The former West Ham United and Bologna striker is currently under contract with Inter until the end of next June.

Inter would likely listen to offers for Arnautovic this summer. But on the other hand, the club would be more than happy to keep hold of the Austrian.

Arnautovic is an experienced, physical striker who knows Serie A well at this stage. His wages are relatively low and Inzaghi would be glad to have the 35-year-old as an option next season.

Alternatively, Correa could return to Inter.

The former Lazio, Sevillla, and Sampdoria forward joined Marseille on loan last summer.

But it has been nothing short of a flop season for Correa in the south of France.

Marseille would have no intention of signing Correa on a permanent basis.

However, qualification for the Champions League would mean that there is a purchase obligation.

Marseille will not do so via Ligue 1. But they could do so by winning the Europa League, where they are in the semifinals.

Should Marseille not qualify for Europe’s top club competition, though, Inter will have a decision to make regarding Correa.

The Nerazzurri would certainly consider offers of €7-8 million for the 29-year-old. But on the other hand, he could remain in the squad as a depth option, Tuttosport anticipate.
