On the ball, Gvardiol was his usual composed self, and often, when his teammates needed an outlet in possession when hurried by Everton’s press, Gvardiol was it.

It isn’t a surprise to see Josko Gvardiol thriving at centre-back. When he arrived at Manchester City from RB Leipzig he was regarded as one of the finest young defensive talents in football. He made the left-back position his own upon his arrival at the club. But in recent matches, he has shown that he belongs at the heart of Manchester City’s defence. He proved that once again yesterday. If he didn’t play in the manner that he did Pep Guardiola’s side may have struggled to beat a plucky Everton outfit.
